“I am a 79 year old grandmother. I was totally bedridden for 10 years with a very rare brain disorder that resulted in head to toe muscle spasms that lasted for hours. After my recovery I did every exercise I could find to keep my muscles from tight spasms. Nothing worked. Then I found Alayna Marie, a ballerina. She knows all about keeping muscles relaxed, flexibility, especially in the spine, and strength. I started working with her 2 times a week and after just a few sessions I was so much improved that I painted 2500 square feet of 10 foot ceilings and walls in my house. I will never stop doing pilates. It does more for my body than any strengthening exercises ever did. I have no painful joints and my back and core get stronger with every session. “When I discovered pilates, I fell in love with it so quickly that I bought my own reformer and began the search for an instructor shortly after my first few classes. Fast forward to a year later and I am amazed and incredibly grateful at how it's changed my life – and that's 100% because I was lucky enough to find Alayna. Our weekly lessons have evolved from learning to use this crazy machine to actually understanding how to shape my muscles in the beautiful, strengthening, elongating ways pilates intends. Something I didn't expect however, was for our work to be a journey into learning to listen to and love my body, letting it teach me how to take care of it, and changing my lifelong "if it doesn't hurt, it's not working" exercise philosophy.

For years I went to the gym 4 to 5 times a week – circuit training, running, lifting weights – all the while thinking it was required to be in pain in order to see results. While I know her extensive education and lifelong experience in dance and pilates informs her guidance, Alayna truly seems to have some kind of added body empathy ESP. She's proven to me that it's far better for my body, and my brain, to approach fitness with an awareness of how my body feels each day and use that knowledge to guide what work and movements are going to benefit me the most. During our sessions she's able to see miniscule details in how I'm holding my muscles and use visualizations and metaphors to describe modifications that have made a world of difference in reaching my goals. With a recent foot surgery, fused spine and the challenges that come with scoliosis, it's no small feat that she's been able to see these things and teach me to get results but without the pain - over Zoom no less!

Alayna has brought me to a place where I'm proud of my strength and tone. My relationship with my body is healthier than it's ever been. And when I recently began circuit training again, I was amazed at the things I could do that I struggled so hard with before - and without hurting my back. “I did Pilates for a lot of years in California and always liked it, but then I moved to Austin and couldn’t find an instructor I really liked. Luckily, heaven smiled on me and led me to Alayna two plus years ago. She just “gets” me and my needs and always did a great job changing up what we did each week. Then, enter the pandemic! Since nobody’s studio was open, Alayna and I began to do virtual session online and it changed everything about my body. Somehow having me use just what I had at home (weights, bands and foam rollers) and getting to see me up close and personal on a big computer screen must have given her different viewing angles of my body (poor Alayna!) that allowed her to see and work on all sorts of strange ways I cheated when running through each session’s exercises. I fell in love with Pilates and Gyrotonic a few years ago. I struggled with chronic back pain and Alayna mentioned it might be beneficial for me to try. I was living in NYC and she was in Texas so we didn't have a way to train together (Pre-covid). The mindful movement of the practice became a game changer in my wellness journey and immediately reduced my pain. Fast forward to 2020 when virtual training and workouts became the new normal. I did a virtual private with her, and it was just as good as (if not better than) the classes I took in person in NYC. Alayna is an incredibly intuitive teacher. She is able to identify specific areas of growth and adjustments while layering in mindfulness and breathwork for a full-body practice. Teaching is a skill. Intuitive teaching is a gift and that is why I love working with Alayna. She is fully present, fully engaged and fully committed to meet me where I'm at and then equip me to push towards my wellness goals. I leave her classes feeling more aligned, more centered, stronger and more confident. After one class with her, you will wonder what you ever did without her!
